A pension for the rest of your life - modelled honestly.
SRDP is the lifetime alternative to weekly incapacity. We use DVA's weekly PI amount as the offset (not a fictional draw-down on the lump), strip out DCP, and apply the 60% super offset that catches most veterans by surprise.

What the Special Rate Disability Pension actually is
SRDP is a tax-free weekly pension paid for life under the MRCA as an alternative to ongoing incapacity payments. It exists for veterans whose service-related conditions have ended their working life, and it keeps paying past Age Pension age - which incapacity payments do not. Choosing it is a one-way door: once you elect SRDP, you cannot switch back to incapacity payments.
How it works
- Starts from a full weekly rate set by DVA and indexed twice a year.
- Reduced by your weekly Permanent Impairment rate - the actual weekly figure, not a notional drawdown of the lump sum.
- Reduced by any VEA Disability Compensation Payment you receive.
- Reduced by 60% of your CSC super pension (DFRDB, MSBS or ADF Cover invalidity benefit). This is the offset most veterans don't see coming.
- The remainder is your SRDP - paid fortnightly, indexed, and continuing after age 67.
Who is eligible
All five criteria must be met before DVA will consider an SRDP election:
- You have accepted MRCA liability and are receiving (or eligible for) incapacity payments.
- Your Combined Impairment Score under GARP M is 50 points or more.
- A treating specialist confirms you cannot work more than 10 hours per week because of your accepted conditions.
- A treating specialist confirms rehabilitation is unlikely to improve your work capacity.
- You are under Age Pension age (currently 67) at the time of election.
